October is for Hope

I’d intended to stitch and finish this design in time for the beginning of October as a tribute to women who are living with breast cancer and to remind us all to keep the flame of a cure alive.  Late as usual! But better late than not at all.

Remember Me pincushion, Blackbird Designs

Design: Basket of Memories, by Blackbird Design
Fabric: grey 32 count Belfast linen
Thread: WDW Emma’s Pink
Embellishments: pink shell buttons, pink beads and silver hope charms

Maggi Co’s Villages Finito!

A number of posts ago, I showed you a wee finish…

Maggi Co’s Village 1

Well, thought you needed to see it’s partner. Village 2  – finished last week…

A Wonderful Village 2 – MaggiCo’s Village

MaggiCo’s Village 2 – close up

They are too cute!  And stitch up very quickly. Had an idea to stitch up a few more quirky buildings to create a bit of a theme on a wall somewhere at home.

We’re fast approaching the last quarter of the year, and somehow, my stitching plans for 2012 just haven’t come together this year. Anyhow, I feel like I’ve had a bit of a win with these two designs.

I’m off to Melbourne for work this coming week, so not sure how much stitching is going to take place.

Wishing you all Happy Stitching while I’m away 🙂

Happy Spring!

First day of spring Down Under, but my patio has started to bloom way ahead of the season…

Bright red Pig Face

gorgeous spring patio flowers – can’t remember name

Assorted Geraniums

On the stitching front, I do have a few feeble efforts to share. First, a small hanging ornament to cheer up my space at work…

Fabric: 32 count Dirty Belfast linen

And a wee bit of progress with my Adam & Eve Sampler, design by The Historical Sampler Company…

This weekend I’m working feverishly on completing assignments that were due yesterday 31 August, so not much hope of stitching, but I remain optimistic.

Happy Stitching 😉

Exchange Stitching

I had not intended to be AWOL from this poor neglected blog for so long 😦 Life – work, study, cleaning, gardening, procrastination, tiredness – have all conspired against my stitching plans, I’m afraid.

I did manage to participate in the Stitching Between Friends Exchange (theme: birds & trees), for which my partner was Conny of Creative Basket. I’ll let the photos tell the story…

From Conny – Summer Splendour, LHN

From Conny – back of cushion

The design is so evocative of spring in Perth (just around the corner); a time of strawberries, singing birds and renewal. Thank you so much, Conny. I love it 🙂

This is what I stitched for Conny – blue is one of her favourite colours.

For Conny – SpiraLbre, Cargaudlabrico

Initials on back of ornament

Remember my Adam & Eve Sampler (Historic Sampler Company)? I have made a wee bit of progress, but that’s for another blog post.

Happy Stitching 😉

Exits and Entrances

It’s winter! This morning I heard the kookaburras laughing in the trees out in the park behind us. That definitely is a winter signal for this neck of the woods. Today, for the first time in a week, it’s not raining. It’s been great to have the rain, though we could have done without the mini tornado last week (which happened only a five minute drive from us!) and the two storms, which caused quite a bit of damage in the South-West region.

All that rain has kept me indoors, which means that I have a few things to show 🙂

First off, a finish…

Design: A wonderful village 1, Maggi Co’s Village
Fabric: 36 count white Newcastle linen
Thread: DMC as charted

Secondly, a new start…

Adam & Eve Sampler

Design: Adam & Eve Sampler, The Historical Sampler Company
Fabric: 32 count Stoney Grey Taupe Belfast (my choice of fabric)
Thread: DMC as charted

Would you believe it, this will be my very first A&E sampler! I’ve admired many an A&E sampler on other blogs, so looking forward to having my very own.

Happy Stitching 😉

Life’s Good!

YaY! Great progress with my eyesight this last week. I can see a lot more detail now and colours are so much more radiant! I can even take sharp photos without having to wear glasses.

A couple of finishes to share…

Secret Garden Strawberry, BBD

Secret Garden Strawberry, BBD – close up indoor shot

Design: Secret Garden Strawberry by Blackbird Designs
Fabric: 30 count French Vanilla, R&R Reproductions
Thread: Weeks Dye Works Turkish Red (2263)

I also finished a small ornament which I stitched in late 2008 …

Small ornament

Design: freebie, from a Quaker designs (can’t recall)
Fabric: 32 count white Belfast linen
Thread: DMC Variations 4045
Trim: a gift from my friend Gaby

And just for the fun of it, I stitched myself a pair of country style pincushions. A stitcher can never have too many of these …

Two pincushions

Happy Stitching 😉

In Recovery

I had eye surgery late last week, so have been in recovery. Which means very little doing of anything and lots of rules 😦 no outdoors (except with sunglasses on); no bending over; no lifting; no coughing (except with my mouth open); and the worst thing? have to sleep with a plastic eyepatch taped over my eye! Good thing?  I’ve been promised ‘close to perfect eyesight’ when it all heals up in a couple of months 🙂 I’ll let you know if it was worth it or not.

In the meantime, my stitching mojo returned. Just when it’s rather difficult to stitch for more than a half hour at a time? Strange! Anyway, I managed to finish this little beauty yesterday.

Bloom – Birds of a Feather

Fabric: 32 count Vintage Country Mocha Belfast
Threads: Gentle Art Sampler Threads (as called for in design)

It was the fun design and joyful colours that brought my mojo back, I think. I’ll frame and keep it close by to remind me to bloom.

Happy Stitching 😉
